MARCELO BIELSA has announced that he will soon step away from his current job as Uruguay boss.

The legendary coach in 2023, after leaving his four-year spell as boss.

But now he has revealed that his time with the national side is coming to an end.

He confirmed on Thursday that he would be departing his role immediately after the World Cup.

Bielsa, 70, reportedly said, via Clarin : “Our work culminates with the World Cup.

“Participating in the World Cup is a miracle in any professional athlete’s life. And I will personally be forever grateful to for allowing me to enjoy a competition like that.”

He will remain in the dugout for the tournament, which will pit his side against , and in the group stage.

The Argentine tactician first stepped into senior management in 1990, with hometown club Newell’s Old Boys.

He would work his way up in Argentina, Mexico, and briefly with Espanyol in Spain, before taking over the national team of his home country in 1998.

Argentina did not progress through the group stage at the 2002 World Cup under the coach, being pipped to qualification in Group F by and .

He would go on to win an Olympic gold with the side, but soon switched to manage South American rivals Chile.

He led the side to the Round of 16 at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, but resigned soon amid conflict with the Chilean Football Board.

So began a successful career in European club football in which he would manage in the top flights in Spain, France and Italy, before making the switch to Championship side Leeds in 2018.

He spent three-and-a-half seasons in Yorkshire, using his no-holds-barred attacking approach to gain the side promotion to the Premier League, before being sacked in his second season in the division.

In March Bielsa d ahead of with England at Wembley.

He said: “Being at Leeds gave me the most beautiful memories and one of the best gifts has given me.

“The power that English football really has is based on the fans and the unconditional love of the supporters to build a great league.

“This English league would not be what it is if it were not for how their fans feel. For me, I was at Leeds for four years. But in three games, my team conceded 14 goals and it would be very difficult to survive that. I always understood it (getting the sack) as justified.”
