THIS is the moment a man was “knocked over a car’s bonnet” in a road rage row – but cops have reportedly told him they are dropping the case because he swore.

Ex-Tory association chairman Lee Holmes, from , submitted the footage to , including shouting obscenities at the driver after they allegedly twice rammed his partner’s car.

But a Cleveland constable reportedly wrote back saying the incident was “one word against another essentially”, adding the clip showed “your behaviour (shouting and swearing)”.

Lettings agent Mr Holmes, 53, said the fact he’s “quite Northern and quite sweary” was no excuse for closing the .

He was a passenger in the car at the time in February, with he and his partner home from the shops when a red car cut them up.

Mr Holmes, a former chairman of the South Tees Conservative Association, told The Daily Telegraph : “My partner beeped his horn and at that point the other driver slammed his brakes on and brake-checked us, which was incredibly stupid and juvenile.

“Luckily, my partner managed to brake and avoid running into the back of him and at that he suddenly put his car into reverse and rammed us.”

Mr Holmes said he and his partner expected the driver to pull over and exchange details but instead drove off.

He explained how they then followed the car as they weren’t sure of the extent of the damage done.

However, the driver allegedly did “exactly the same thing” further up the road, slamming on the brakes and ramming them again.

The footage show Mr Holmes clambering out of the car before being struck by the other vehicle.

He said: “I went up over the bonnet, legs in the air, and came down on my right hand side.”

He added if he’d come down “head first” he could have suffered far worse injuries.

Mr Holmes can be heard shouting “you f***ing c***” and “you f***ing maniac”, then while sprawled on the ground “you f***ing b*****” before telling his partner to call the cops.

However, on reporting the incident, he says he was told the case was not being taken further but believes “anybody would be swearing in those circumstances”.

Mr Holmes asked for a review of the decision to close the case but this has been rejected.

A Cleveland Police spokesman said: “Extensive enquiries were carried out as part of the investigation. A counter allegation was also made which was investigated.

“It was deemed there was insufficient evidence to progress and the decision was made to close the case pending any further information.

“This decision was reviewed internally and again through the Victims’ Right to Review process, and the decision was upheld.

“Complaints can be made via the Independent Office for Police Conduct.”

The Sun has approached Cleveland Police for further information.
