now 31, was jailed earlier this month for perverting the course of justice after she falsely accused Kaylum and nine other men of raping her.
Kaylum’s life derailed while he was on bail for 18 months during the . He was left unable to find work and he became the recipient of abuse in the street and online.
Four years after the charge was dropped the approached Kaylum to support a case against Sharples but CPS didn’t take action.
Kaylum, now 28, then appealed the decision and finally Sharples was sentenced to four and a half years at Bolton Crown Court. She pleaded guilty to 10 counts of perverting the course of justice in relation to 10 separate men.
The then-teen started chatting to a 19-year-old Sharples on social media in December 2013. After exchanging a few messages they met on Boxing Day.
He told Manchester Evening News that he went to see a group of friends, both male and female, and Sharples was there.
Kaylum said he didn’t sit near Sharples or speak to her. She scrolled through her phone, not speaking to anyone, before getting up and leaving without saying goodbye.
Two days later Kaylum was arrested on suspicion of rape.
He was detained on the street while his friends watched and taken to a cell where he was held for hours.
During a police interview, Kaylum was asked explicit questions about orally raping Sharples, being violent towards her and even threatening her with a knife.
He said: “I was only 16, I was mortified at the use of explicit language and I was really scared. I tried saying I’d never been alone with her, I’d never spoken to her, but I felt they weren’t listening.”
Kaylum was posted bail for 18 months and struggled to find work while facing abuse in the street and online.
People would yell “Rapist” at him in the street or write horrible social media posts.
Kaylum described being constantly angry and feeling like his life was stuck.

The charges were suddenly dropped in 2015 without any explanation.
Officers reached out four years later to see if he would help with case against Sharples as he turned out to be the first in her string of allegations against multiple men.
Kaylum said he was happy to support a prosecution but then CPS said they wouldn’t press charges.
Finally after Kaylum appealed Sharples was charged and then jailed last month.
One victim told The Sun he met Sharples in 2019 on Badoo, where her profile had a topless picture.
He said: “Her messages said she was after one thing. She was in my house for about 20 minutes.
“We kissed then she said she didn’t want to kiss any more. I said no problem and got her a taxi home.
“Then she phoned and said I really hurt her.”
Sharples rang police and claimed the 40-year-old builder raped and attacked her.

Twelve arrested him at his flat, he spent two days in cells and lost his job.
He was later told he faced no further action
Kaylum said: “We were all in court to see her jailed. It was the first time I’d seen her in 13 years – I would not even have recognised her and yet she had torn my life to shreds.”
Sharples got off lightly he told the paper as her lies ruined the lives of him and nine other men.
Kaylum said that genuine victims should be supported but making false allegations about innocent men was unforgivable.
He still sees comments on social media questioning whether he is innocent despite Sharples’ guilty plea.
“The stigma of a rape allegation never truly goes away. We had to live with the aftermath of her lies everyday” he continued.
Kaylum is looking forward to the birth of his first child later this year and is trying to move on with his new partner.
Detective Sergeant Steven Gilliland, who investigated this case, said, “No officer goes into a rape investigation with an intent to pursue the individual making that report, and we do not want genuine rape victims and survivors to think that is what will happen if they were to come forward.
“Genuinely, there is no better moment for a detective than when you secure a conviction for an offence such as rape, as it is amongst the most abhorrent of all offences and can cause lifelong trauma for those that experience it.
“We took the allegations made by Stacey Sharples seriously, explored all lines of enquiry and swiftly made arrests or interviewed all of the men she accused.”
He continued: “Ultimately, as the evidence continued to demonstrate that the reports were untrue, coupled with the desire for justice from some of the men who had been falsely accused, it was right that we followed the evidence and pursued the individual who had actually committed a criminal offence.”
