A prominent jockey suffered multiple fractures in a terrifying fall.
The shocking incident involved Felix De Giles during a race in Paris.
The 36-year-old was thrown from his horse, Sunny Swing, during Sunday’s Prix Jack Barbe.
De Giles crashed to the ground after Sunny Swing stumbled over a jump.
He sustained severe injuries in the accident, including two broken legs and a broken arm.
De Giles also fractured his femur and dislocated his hip.
He is currently recuperating from his injuries in a hospital in Paris.
De Giles is expected to be sidelined for approximately six months.
Speaking from his hospital bed, the jockey said: “The arm doesn’t feel too bad, but my legs are quite swollen.
“Unfortunately, I was conscious throughout the ordeal.
“I saw that my right leg was broken, but I have no idea how I managed to fracture both legs.
“They performed all the repairs in one surgery: the arm, both legs, and they reset the hip. I hope that’s the last of the surgeries.
“I need to remain lying down for three weeks.
“Due to the hip injury, I can't even sit up in a wheelchair, and whether I will do that here or in a hospital closer to home has yet to be decided.
“I would have likely caught up in the jockeys’ title race [which concludes on January 31] since I typically perform well at Cagnes and Pau in the winter, but that’s all behind me now.”
