AN IRANIAN singer has been sentenced to 74 lashes by the barbaric regime after filming a music video without a hijab.

Parastoo Ahmadi, 29, and several other artists, were handed a flogging over a live-streamed performance from December 2024, reports say.

According to court documents seen by the Guardian, Ahmadi was singing “As Khoone Javane Vatan”, a patriotic song which translates to “From the Blood of the Youth of the Homeland”.

But in the clip, she sang in Persian without wearing a hijab, the outlet reported.

Local authorities gave her a brutal sentence of 74 whips after discovering the video.

Some human rights groups have said the horrifying ruling has no legal grounding.

The artist, alongside multiple other musicians, were reportedly briefly arrested on suspicion of not donning the religious headscarf during their live stream.

Their video racked up millions of views on .

The group were eventually released, and in addition to the lashes, Ahmadi and the crew received a two-year ban on leaving the country and a two-year ban on engaging in artistic activities.

A lawyer told the outlet: “Singing, performing music and producing or disseminating musical works by women are not criminalised under Iranian criminal .

“Consequently, such activities cannot reasonably be construed as the ‘production, distribution or publication of obscene content.'”

Iran’s official judiciary agency has not yet published the ruling.

But rights groups have argued that an increase in cases against artists like Ahmadi have proven the regime is still cracking down on cultural dissent.

Bahar Ghandehari, the director of advocacy at the US-based Center for Human Rights in Iran, told the outlet: “Ahmadi’s punishment of 74 lashes for merely singing and appearing without a hijab is yet another reminder that human rights conditions in Iran have not changed, despite the Iranian authorities’ wartime propaganda campaign aimed at improving their image.”

It comes after the Iranian regime’s brutal crackdown on protesters in January, just before the US-Israeli assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Millions of young Iranians poured out on to the streets to protest against the mullah leadership’s failing economy.

But security forces hit back with a blood-soaked clampdown, leaving tens of thousands dead.

Following US-Israeli strikes on Iran which kicked off on February 28, the teetering regime has fended off all attempts to topple it.

This week, Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding.

The agreement will pave the way to end the Strait of Hormuz blockade and all strikes in the Middle East.
