Zamfara State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, have lamented over the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage without salary table.
The two bodies lamented that the committee set up by the State government didn’t take into consideration the salary table presented to it by the organized labour leaders.
Speaking at the Workers Day celebration in Gusau, the chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Sani Haliru noted that the State pensioners were passing through a difficult period.
According to him, many prisoners have died without receiving their gratuity, even after serving the government for 35 years.
He, however, appealed to the State government to help the pensioners to maintain their lives and their families, saying that every civil servant must one day be a pensioner.
He also stated that the State’s organized Union did not find any justification over the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage for the workers.
“How can the committee approve N70,000 minimum wage without following the salary table?
“We are therefore calling on the State government to urgently address the impasse,”; the union said.
Speaking, the State chairman of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, Comrade Saidu Mudi said that the theme of this year’s celebration is “Reclaiming the Civil Space in the midst of economic hardship”;
He pointed out that the choice of this year’s theme by the leadership of the organized labour is primarily to reflect on the current economic hardship that is biting hard on Nigerians as a result of some policies of the federal government.
