Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have uncovered a major illegal fuel supply operation in Maiduguri, Borno State, allegedly aiding Boko Haram terrorists operating in the Gwoza axis and into parts of Cameroon.
The military raided Hadiza and Sadiq Filling Station while its operators were openly loading fuel into about 500 jerrycans—an act described by authorities as a deliberate and treacherous attempt to empower enemies of the state.
Intelligence sources confirmed to counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama that the troops had been monitoring the activities of several unscrupulous fuel dealers.
These individuals, according to the sources, modified vehicle tanks—especially in Golf cars—to transport large quantities of fuel, which were later transferred into jerrycans and moved into terrorist-held territories.
But this time, the operation was intercepted. Troops stormed the scene and arrested several suspects red-handed.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspects confessed to transporting the fuel toward the Pulka area and parts of Cameroon, which are known to harbor members of the Boko Haram faction led by Ali Ngulde.
However, they claimed ignorance about the specific identities of the recipients, saying people from “various destinations”; collected the fuel.
Security officials condemned what they described as a disturbing and treasonous network of collaborators hiding under the guise of legitimate business to support terrorist activities.
“These are not businessmen, they are economic saboteurs and enemies of the Nigerian state. Their actions cost lives every day,”; said a military source.
The military has vowed to strengthen surveillance over fuel distribution networks and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.
