Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has approved six months maternity leave for nursing mothers in the state’s civil service.

The governor gave this approval during the State Executive Council meeting at the Council Chamber of Government House, Minna.

According to him, the decision was taken to give nursing mothers enough time to adequately care for themselves as well as their newborns.

Bago explained, “The six months maternity leave is aimed at affording women ample time to take good care of themselves and their newborns, as well as help them become more productive when they resume.”;;

Bago further emphasized that the policy was approved as part of efforts aimed at protecting maternal and child health in line with international best practices.

He then directed the Head of Service, Abubakar Sadiq Idris, to work out modalities for proper implementation of the policy.
