Lagos to close ACME road for APC primaries on May 10

Published on May 08, 2025 at 10:51 AM

The Lagos State Government has announced a temporary closure of ACME Road in Ikeja to all vehicular traffic on Saturday, May 10, 2025, to facilitate the conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Primaries at the party’s State Secretariat.

The advisory, issued via the official X handle of the state government on Wednesday, stated that the traffic restriction is part of broader security and traffic management measures aimed at ensuring orderliness during the political event.

According to the statement, access to ACME Road will be restricted from key entry points including Adeniyi Jones, Lateef Jakande Road, and ACME Crescent. Motorists have been advised to explore alternative routes and cooperate with traffic personnel deployed to manage the situation.

“Ahead of the APC Primaries scheduled to hold at the APC State Secretariat at ACME Road, Ikeja on Saturday, 10th May, 2025, the Lagos State Government has issued a Traffic Advisory to aid free movement during the process.

“Motorists will not be able to access ACME Road from Adeniyi Jones, Lateef Jakande, and ACME Crescent ends. The entire stretch of ACME Road will be closed off to vehicular movement during the primaries,”; the statement read in part.

To minimize inconvenience to road users, the Lagos State Government has advised motorists to use alternative routes during the temporary closure of ACME Road for the APC Primaries:

From Adeniyi Jones, drivers are encouraged to take Aromire Street and continue through Allen Junction.

From Allen Avenue, use Aromire Street, link up with Ladipo Oluwole, and proceed via Guinness to reach your destination.

From Akilo Road, Divert through Wemco Road, then either continue to Lateef Jakande or head toward Omole.

Commuters are strongly urged to plan their journeys ahead of time and avoid the ACME Road axis unless absolutely necessary. These suggested diversions aim to reduce congestion and maintain smooth traffic flow around the event venue.

Also, officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be stationed along the designated routes to guide motorists and ensure safety throughout the period.

The state government emphasized that these measures are part of broader efforts to ensure the orderly conduct of the APC Primaries while minimizing disruption to daily activities.

Motorists are encouraged to comply with the advisory and remain patient as authorities work to manage traffic effectively.
