Kano: Kwankwasiyya city residents face 48‑hour deadline over makeshift buildings

Published on May 20, 2025 at 03:11 PM

The Kano State Housing Corporation has issued a stringent 48‑hour ultimatum to occupants of unauthorized structures beneath high‑tension power lines at Kwankwasiyya City, warning that non‑compliance will invite “severe consequences in accordance with the law.”;;

Alhaji Abdullahi Rabiu, Managing Director of the Housing Corporation, announced the directive in a public notice earlier today.

Rabiu expressed deep concern over the proliferation of illegal businesses and makeshift dwellings directly under overhead electricity cables.

“These actions not only contravene our urban development laws but also pose a significant risk to public safety,”;; he stated, emphasizing that the structures were erected without any approval or clearance from relevant authorities.

The ultimatum aligns with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s executive directives to restore order, safeguard lives, and protect critical infrastructure across the state.

Under the order, all unauthorized constructions must be dismantled and the occupants must vacate the premises within two days.

Failure to meet the deadline, Rabiu warned, would trigger enforcement measures ranging from fines to legal prosecution and demolition of the illegal structures.

“We maintain a zero‑tolerance policy towards illegal occupation and land misuse,”;; Rabiu declared, underscoring the Corporation’s commitment to upholding the rule of law.

He urged residents and business owners to comply immediately to avoid disruptions and penalties.

Governor Yusuf’s administration has in recent months intensified efforts to enforce urban discipline, particularly in rapidly expanding housing estates.
