Protest rocks federal ministry of finance over unpaid allowances, emoluments

Published on May 20, 2025 at 02:41 PM

Members of the Trade Union Congress are currently staging a protest at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The protest, our correspondent gathered is linked to arrears of allowances owed the workers, most of whom are affiliated to the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, under the leadership of Festus Osifo.

As our reporter got to the scene of the protest many of them were seen putting on red T-shirts and commotion was observed at the main entrance gate into the premises.

Most of the vehicles belong to staff members were parked by the roadside, further worsening the traffic situation in the area.

Some police personnel from the FCT Police command were seen stationed around to ensure law and order.

The TUC General Secretary, Nuhu Toro was also spotted at the protest scene but failed to give reasons for the protest.

One of the protesters who craved anonymity said, “You can see that our office has been blocked. We don’t even know the full reason yet”;;.

As at the time of filing this report, the Ministry of Finance had not issued an official statement regarding the protest or the specific demands of the TUC.

Recall also that members of the Nigerian Legion had staged protest at that same spot recently over unpaid pensions.
