The Kano State Government, through the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, has sealed two warehouses located along Airport Road by France Road, near No. 2 Court in the Gyadi Gyadi axis of Sabon Gari, for violating environmental safety regulations.
According to the ministry, the facilities were used to store insecticides and fumigation chemicals, which were emitting strong and unpleasant odors that disturbed residents and passersby in the area.
Director of Pollution Control at the ministry, Malam Ibrahim Nasir, who led the enforcement operation, said the action followed complaints from community members.
“We received a report about the offensive smell coming from the store. Upon inspection, our officers confirmed the claim. The shop owner was served with an abatement notice, directing him to relocate and discontinue the storage of such materials, but he failed to comply. Consequently, we had no option but to seal the premises and take legal action,”; he explained.
Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahiru M. Hashim, emphasized that the sealing exercise was part of the government’s commitment to ensuring public safety and environmental protection.
“Storing hazardous substances in residential areas poses a serious threat to health and the environment. We will not tolerate any activity that endangers the lives and well-being of our citizens,”; Dr. Hashim stated.
The ministry also urged residents to report any environmental infractions, assuring that it remains committed to safeguarding public health and promoting a clean and green environment.
