Police deploy tactical commanders to troubled Benue communities

Published on May 04, 2025 at 05:53 PM

The Benue State Commissioner of Police, Emenari Ifeanyi, has deployed tactical commanders to communities grappling with serious security challenges.

The decision was announced during an emergency security meeting held on 3rd May at the Police Officers’ Mess in Makurdi.

CSP Catherine Anene, the police public relations officer for the state, confirmed the development in a statement released to journalists on Sunday.

The meeting, attended by senior police officers, area commanders, tactical commanders, and divisional police officers, was convened to restrategise and take decisive steps in restoring order in volatile areas of the state.

CP Emenari charged the newly deployed commanders to intensify efforts, adopt proactive strategies and collaborate with other security stakeholders, including quasi-security outfits operating within their areas of responsibility.

He stressed the importance of community policing as a sustainable model for effective security management, noting that “all hands must be on deck.”;

While encouraging inter-agency cooperation, the police commissioner also reaffirmed his administration’s zero tolerance for corruption and any form of unprofessional conduct that could tarnish the image of the Nigeria Police Force. He warned officers against misconduct and assured that exemplary behavior would not go unrewarded.

“I am committed to rewarding professionalism, discipline, and dedication. The public expects the best from us, and we must not disappoint,”; CP Emenari stated.

He also expressed willingness to work closely with traditional rulers, community leaders and all citizens who are invested in the safety and peace of Benue State.
