Fabregas rejects offer to replace Real Madrid-bound Xabi Alonso

Published on May 14, 2025 at 02:01 PM

Como head coach, Cesc Fabregas, has turned down a move to Bayer Leverkusen.

Leverkusen is considering Fabregas as a replacement for the outgoing Xabi Alonso.

After working as an assistant coach where Como secured promotion to Serie A in the 2023-24 campaign, Fabregas is now close to securing a top-half finish in the Italian top flight.

As a result of his impressive work, the former Spain midfielder has attracted interest from several top European clubs.

Fabregas, however, has rejected Leverkusen’s offer and decided to honour his existing contract that runs until 2028.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Fabregas is grateful to Como for the trust the club had shown in him at a time when he was yet to procure a UEFA license to coach at the highest level.

Leverkusen are not the first team to approach Como about Fabregas. RB Leipzig and Roma had previously contacted the 38-year-old.
