EPL: He’ll be an upgrade on Sanchez – Foster names goalkeeper Chelsea should sign

Former Manchester United and Watford goalkeeper, Ben Foster has urged Chelsea to sign Aaron Ramsdale from Southampton.

He said the England international would be an upgrade on Chelsea’s current shot-stopper Robert Sanchez.

Ramsdale suffered relegation as Southampton’s return to the English Championship was confirmed following their 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in April.

The former Arsenal goalkeeper and some of his teammates at Southampton are expected to leave St Mary’s at the end of the season.

When asked whether he would take Ramsdale, 26, if he was Chelsea, Foster told the Ben Foster – The Cycling GK podcast: “Yes, I would. He would be an upgrade.

“He needs to find a team that are going to be a solid, settled Premier League team and you will get another ten years out of Aaron Ramsdale at the top level.

“That is what Aaron Ramsdale needs. There is a really good signing there.

“The funny thing is that Chelsea’s best goalkeeper this year has been out on loan at Bournemouth. I think Kepa [Arrizabalaga] has been fantastic for Bournemouth this season,”; he added.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are expected to strengthen their manager Enzo Maresca’s squad in the summer transfer window.
