Allow us breathe – APC chieftain Igbokwe warns as another electricity tariff hike looms

Published on May 20, 2025 at 05:42 PM

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Joe Igbokwe, has urged the Federal Government to halt any plan aiming to further hike electricity tariffs in the country.

DAILY POST reports that about two weeks ago, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu called on Nigerians to prepare for a fresh hike in electricity tariffs.

The minister, who claimed that the new tariffs will reflect the true costs of electricity, also said the country’s economy can no longer afford to pay for electricity subsidies.

However, Igbokwe in a post on his official Facebook page on Tuesday urged the government to “let us breathe now”;;.

The APC chieftain advised that the government should not “add even half a penny on electricity tariff right now in Nigeria.

“We are yet to come to terms with Band A and B and you are talking about increasing the tariff again. Let us breathe now”;;.
