2025 U-20 AFCON: Zubairu talks up Flying Eagles’ win over Tunisia, shifts attention to Morocco

Published on May 02, 2025 at 07:33 AM

Flying Eagles head coach, Aliyu Zubairu has talked up his team’s victory over Tunisia, DAILY POST reports.

The seven-time champions defeated the North Africans 1-0 in their opening fixture at the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Cairo on Thursday.

Auwal Ibrahim scored the decisive goal seven minutes before the break.

“There is no secret to our victory other than the fact that we want to get the World Cup ticket.

“The boys realised we have to get the first step right, and that’s what motivated us to win this game,”; Zubairu said during his interaction with the media after the game.

The Flying Eagles will face Morocco in their next game at the June 30 Stadium on Sunday.

Morocco recorded a 3-2 victory over Kenya in their first game.

Zubairu stated that he will devise a strategy that will give his side maximum points against the former champions.

“Morocco have more players playing abroad, but we will handle each game as they come.

“The match against Tunisia is now in the past. How we approach the game, I think that is for our own consumption, but we will map out a way to beat them,”; he added.
