The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced that he has politically separated from Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in anticipation of the 2027 elections.

Wike stated that he would personally endorse a candidate he can trust to succeed Fubara, emphasizing that he would not repeat what he referred to as the errors of the 2023 election.

The former governor of Rivers State made these comments while addressing his supporters over the weekend in the Ahoada Local Government Area of the state.

He claimed that previous agreements made with the governor were allegedly broken, making further political collaboration unfeasible.

“We will not repeat the mistakes we made in 2023,” Wike asserted, adding that no one would dictate political choices to him in Rivers State.

He also rejected the notion that recent political slogans and rallies would guarantee an electoral ticket for any aspirant.

DAILY POST recalls that Governor Fubara recently switched allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, Wike clarified that his public support for President Bola Tinubu does not imply automatic endorsement for Fubara’s re-election campaign.

He reaffirmed his support for Tinubu, stating that the president deserves a second term, citing what he described as Tinubu’s goodwill towards Rivers State, including his appointment as FCT minister.

Despite this, Wike insisted that political decisions in Rivers State would be strictly determined by trust and interests.

“So, if you want to shout about your mandate 50 times a day, it will not guarantee you an automatic ticket. If you want to gather everyone and shout about your mandate, that will not secure you an automatic ticket either.

“Politics is about interest,” he stated, adding that he would support a candidate he can trust and “sleep with his eyes closed.”
