He began to struggle for breath in the middle of the night, prompting his fiancée—42-year-old Irish model and singer—to call an ambulance.

Medics treated Rush for an hour and a half, but within 10 minutes of their departure, he took a turn for the worse and collapsed again.

It was the comforting words of his partner Carol that helped him through this ordeal.

Rush told The Mirror : “It was terrifying, and I truly thought I wasn’t going to make it.”

He continued: “I was on the floor gasping for breath. I genuinely believed this was the end for me. I was in a state of panic.

“Carol helped me by guiding me on how to calm down and breathe more easily. She was incredible.

“When the ambulance arrived, I was on the floor looking completely pale and appeared to need resuscitation. I required oxygen to help me through that frightening experience.”

Rush was then taken urgently to the Countess of Chester Hospital.

There, he spent two days in the A&E department and another three days in a general ward before being cleared to return home.

Once again, Carol, who has been engaged to Rush since 2019, demonstrated her true character.

Rush remarked: “Carol stayed by my side every night without exception.

“Liverpool Football Club was outstanding and offered the support and love that made everything much more manageable.”
