Health unions under the guidance of the Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU, and the Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations, AHPA, have announced an indefinite nationwide strike starting on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
The unions cited the government's ongoing failure to implement the revised Consolidated Health Salary Structure, CONHESS, and to resolve long-standing welfare and systemic issues affecting healthcare workers as the reasons for this industrial action.
The national chairman of JOHESU, Comrade Kabiru Minjibir, made this announcement in a statement released on Friday.
This situation arises while the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, is already on an indefinite strike due to unpaid hazard allowance arrears, inadequate working conditions, and the failure to implement promised welfare reforms.
According to DAILY POST, JOHESU represents several significant unions, including the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria, the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals, the Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes, and Associated Institutions, as well as the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions.
JOHESU stressed that the delay in implementing the revised CONHESS is the primary catalyst for this action, highlighting that numerous other unresolved issues also contributed to the decision to halt services.
“The core issue in this situation is the prolonged delay in executing the High-Level Body, HLB, Committee’s report on the revised Consolidated Health Salary Structure since its submission to the Presidential Committee on Salaries and Wages in 2022,” the statement indicated.
