The Gombe State Executive Council has approved the construction of a new Deputy Governor’s Office, estimated at N1.3 billion, along with a modern Fire Service Headquarters valued at N1.2 billion. These initiatives are part of ongoing efforts to enhance administrative efficiency and strengthen emergency response throughout the state.
The approvals were made during the 50th State Executive Council meeting convened on Monday at the Gombe Arena, under the leadership of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
After the meeting, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Usman Kallamu, announced that the new Deputy Governor’s Office will be strategically positioned next to the Government House at the Old Gombe Jewel Suites site. This relocation aims to improve coordination and communication between the offices of the governor and deputy governor.
“Currently, the Deputy Governor’s Office is located at a distance from the Government House, which hampers administrative synergy,” Kallamu stated.
“The council has approved a total of N1,337,885,743.75 for the construction of this new office complex to rectify this issue,” he added.
The commissioner also revealed that the council has allocated N1.3 billion for the completion of five mega secondary schools across the state, reinforcing the Yahaya administration’s commitment to enhancing access to quality education.
To boost the state’s ability to respond to emergencies, the council has approved N1,275,236,520 for the construction of a modern Gombe State Fire Service Headquarters.
Kallamu explained that this facility will function as a centralized and well-equipped base for fire and rescue operations, eliminating years of dependence on temporary offices.
“This project will not only enhance the operational efficiency of fire personnel but will also contribute to the protection of lives, property, and critical infrastructure throughout Gombe,” he remarked.
In addition to these significant projects, the council has ratified N461.8 million for the construction of a new Divisional Police Station in the Shehu Abubakar District.
He noted that the new police facility has been redesigned to align with modern policing and urban development standards.
Under the leadership of Yahaya, the administration has prioritized capital investment and citizen engagement in governance in recent years.
The state’s 2024 budget, totaling N208.06 billion, allocates 58% to capital projects and 42% to recurrent expenditure, highlighting its commitment to infrastructure-focused development.
The state government has indicated that these latest approvals are part of its ongoing strategy to upgrade public infrastructure, enhance service delivery, and position Gombe as one of the most administratively efficient and disaster-ready states in northern Nigeria.
