Students of Kano State Polytechnic have called for immediate dialogue with the institution’s management over the recent increase in tuition fees.
The appeal was made in a letter on Thursday addressed to the Rector by the Joint Campus Council (JCC), Kano Axis, under the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
In the letter, signed by Comrade Yunus Sulaiman Halliru, JCC Chairman, Kano State Axis, the students expressed deep concern over the timing and scale of the increment.
“The timing and scale of this increase are deeply concerning. Many students and their families are already struggling to meet basic needs,” the letter stated.
According to the students’ body, the new fees may make it difficult for many to continue their education, while prospective students could be discouraged from enrolling. They also warned that the development could affect the institution’s reputation and long-term revenue.
The JCC therefore requested that the management convene a meeting within three days to discuss and resolve the issue.
“Failure to engage within this timeframe may compel students to take necessary actions, including a temporary action to safeguard their welfare,” the letter added.
The students’ representatives said they remain committed to protecting students’ interests and urged the management to treat the matter with urgency.
