THERE’S a trauma that many women experience but seldom talk about. This often occurs between the ages of seven and 12, and for many, the memory endures for a lifetime.
Any photographic evidence is typically destroyed, shredded, or mysteriously lost, and stories are usually shared years later.

It often begins when our favorite pop star debuts their new fringe. It perfectly frames their beautiful faces, and we think: “I want to look like that!”
In a moment of inspiration, we reach for our mum’s curved nail scissors, dampen a section of hair, and bravely snip horizontally in front of our faces.
And guess what? We don’t resemble our pop idol at all. Instead, we might as well be the third member of Dumb and Dumber.
Prepare for tears, tantrums, and promises not to go out until it grows back.
What we didn’t realize back then is that hair has a tendency to bounce up. Straight lines don’t exist in the world of hairstyles.
If you have a cowlick, a DIY fringe can end up looking as if it was cut while riding a merry-go-round.
However, time is a great healer. As someone who has sported a fringe for years, I’m thrilled to see it framing so many famous faces today.
The most prominent example at the moment is, of course, [insert name here]. When you look at her pictures from before she had a fringe, you might wonder: who is this average presenter, and why should I listen to her?
But like a sudden superpower, she took a third of her hair and gave it a blunt chop, turning her into a figure of captivating beauty.
Everything she says is fascinating or hilarious. It’s a fact.
And look at the stunning pop princess [insert name here]. Before her fringe, she was just another club kid.
That haircut transformed her ordinary hair into ‘WHO IS THAT?’ and her career quickly followed suit.
There’s something incredibly chic about defying the convention of letting your hair grow to the same length and opting for a section that is significantly shorter.
Velvet Curtain
Of course, it also demonstrates your ability to maintain your look. You must stay vigilant with a fringe, or it could literally blind you.

You need to style, feather, or regularly pay your hairdresser an extra tenner to ensure that the ever-growing section of hair remains in check.
A fringe can make you feel polished and sophisticated in a way that no other hairstyle can. And, of course, it’s a beautiful deceiver.
A fringe is like a thick velvet curtain covering a room full of clutter. But don’t worry; you never have to clean it.
Have a breakout of spots on your forehead? So what? Concerned about fine lines? The world will remain oblivious.
Coming from a long line of fringe enthusiasts, the moment I had enough hair to style, I brushed all of it forward to cover my forehead. This set me on a path where having a fringe felt more like a necessity than a choice.

Of course, I’ve experimented with some disastrous DIY fringes or unfortunate haircuts from stylists that left me wanting to vomit after the blow-dry.
But I’m grateful for this small section of hair that makes me feel like a capable, intriguing woman who slightly defies the norm.
And for the young girls inspired by Claudia’s fabulous hairstyle, I urge you: put down the nail scissors.
