Amsterdam

First up is the capital of the Netherlands. Travel Writer shared how she would spend a day in the city.

She mentioned, “Amsterdam is renowned for its culture, but if you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, it’s an incredibly walkable city, which is why I adore it so much.

“Begin your day in Runstraat, also known as the ‘9 Streets’. Alongside picturesque canals and bridges, there are numerous charming boutiques and shops to explore. I could easily spend all day here just browsing and enjoying the laid-back Dutch vibe. If you're looking for a bite, there are plenty of fun options too.

“Here, you'll find the famous Fabel Friet chip shop, known for its chunky fries topped with truffle and garlic mayo. There’s usually a long queue—thanks to its popularity—and unless you're eager to try them, I would recommend getting an outdoor table at Screaming Beans coffee across the street and savoring a delicious brew while people-watching.

“My top tip is to pop into Banketbakkerij Het Koekemannetje biscuit shop across the street and grab a hazelnut-filled cookie to enjoy with your coffee.
One of my favorite areas is the De Pijp neighborhood.

“It’s very local, bursting with classic Amsterdam charm. I stay at the Hotel Avani in the Museum Quarter, and it’s just a short and easy walk to De Pijp from there.”

Helen continued, “Think quirky bookstores, vibrant gardens, and plenty of traditional Dutch eateries.

“There are two excellent spots in this area. Arie, a neighborhood bistro, offers all-day drinks and snacks—a nod to the old-fashioned Amsterdam bar scene from the 40s.

“Just around the corner is Cafe Caron, a beloved local establishment that fills up quickly and features a fantastic menu and artistic interior, perfect for lunch or dinner.

“Lastly, I enjoy a cheesy ride on a canal bar boat. While the tours may lack substance, you can't beat floating on the water in the sun with an Aperol in hand.”

Brussels

The Deputy Travel Editor added: “When it comes to breakfast, Brussels boasts an incredible coffee scene. My favorite spot is Wide Awake, serving delicious flat whites in pink marbled mugs, alongside generous chocolate and walnut babkas.

“It gets busy, so you might need to take it to go or squeeze onto a table with the locals. Everyone’s first stop should be the Grand Place, the UNESCO-listed central square surrounded by both Gothic and Baroque architecture.

“This is where you can experience both the light show in Brussels and the famous Flower carpet, which takes place every two years in mid-August. Of course, Brussels is famous for two things—fries and waffles.

“For lunch, head to Fritland, which serves only cones of fries with a variety of unique sauces. Afterward, visit one of the Maison Dandoy locations for the fluffiest, lightest waffles (a classic choice is the Biscoff).

“To burn off the calories, one of the coolest areas
