Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag has opened up on what he told Marcus Rashford the very first day he(Ten Hag) met the England star in training.
Ten Hag joined Manchester United from Ajax at the beginning of the current season, taking over from interim boss Ralf Rangnick.
The Dutch coach said he told Rashford ‘on day one’ that he wanted to see him smile every day, urging him to prepare for the training sessions.
The manager said he is excited to work with England forward having seen his potential and the impact he could have on the squad.
Rashford has scored three goals and made two assists in six Premier League appearances.
“From day one I was so excited to work with him,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby.
“I saw his status and I knew already the impact he could have and his potential.
“Now he’s bringing that potential to the pitch so I’m really happy with his development.
“I told him on day one, I want to see you smiling every day…
“If you give your best you will improve and you will perform on the pitch. Then life is easy and your performance will go up.”
