Former Manchester United star, Ander Herrera has told Erik ten Hag that Cristiano Ronaldo is not the type of player to be kept on the bench.
Herrera wants the Dutchman to understand the fact that the Portuguese is not like every other footballer but takes care of himself on a daily basis.
The 37-year-old Portugal international has endured a frustrating start to the season, scoring just twice in 11 games.
Ten Hag prefers the combination of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and new signing Antony in his frontline..
Herrera ultimately believes that Ten Hag needs to utilise Ronaldo as much as possible.
“When you have a player who scores 24 goals last season, how can you say this player is not for the team?” Herrera told ESPN.
“He’s taking care of himself every day, every single training session, so respect and now probably you have to control the charge of him in terms of training and games.
“But in the big moments, he will be there.”
