Q) For about 30 years, since having children, I have been on diets but have mostly remained obese and a size 22. I am a 68-year-old woman. Is the fat jab Mounjaro suitable for me?

I feel as though there is something wrong with my metabolism because I don’t eat large amounts of food. I likely consume the wrong types of food and at inappropriate times.

I’m not hungry for most of the day, and then I might have some biscuits with my tea, a packet of crisps, or a snack between a late breakfast and dinner.

However, I dislike cooking, have little interest in food, and when I try to eat healthy, balanced meals, it feels forced.

If injections can reduce my appetite, will they help me, or could they make things worse?

I haven’t attempted to lose weight in years. I’ve only recently become interested in these injections because I have grandchildren on the way.

A) Congratulations on the upcoming addition to your family! For a long time, society has suggested that losing weight is as simple as “eat less, move more,” but there are over 100 different risk factors for obesity.

Genetics and menopause are two particularly significant factors.

Weight-loss injections have been groundbreaking, but they are not a miracle solution.

They also necessitate lifestyle changes and measures to safeguard muscle and bone health.

There are advantages and disadvantages, which can vary from person to person. I recommend consulting with a metabolic health specialist, such as a pharmacist or nurse.

This way, you can receive support to make the best decision and obtain the right lifestyle advice should you choose to proceed.

What is Mounjaro and how does it work for weight loss?

Mounjaro is a weight-loss injection that can help reduce appetite. It is important to combine it with lifestyle changes for effective results.

Are there any risks associated with weight-loss injections?

Yes, weight-loss injections can have both benefits and drawbacks. It's essential to consult a healthcare professional to understand the potential risks and find the best approach for you.
