Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has urged the youth of Adamawa State in Qur’anic schools to also embrace Western education.
He stated that this is the only way for them to lead a balanced life and make meaningful contributions to national development.
Fintiri, who spoke at the closing ceremony of the 40th Adamawa State Annual Qur’anic Recitation Competition held at Mahmud Ribadu Square, Yola, commended the participants for their commitment to the Holy Qur’an and the preservation of Islamic values. However, he encouraged them to expand their knowledge for greater impact.
In his speech, delivered by the Commissioner for Housing Development, Abdullahi Prambe, the governor advised the youth to deepen their commitment to Qur’anic education while also embracing modern learning as a means to achieve an enlightened society.
He raised this challenge in light of northern youths typically receiving only Islamic education, which often leaves them unprepared for white-collar or professional jobs.
Governor Fintiri emphasized that the educational landscape in the state now provides young people with the opportunity to combine Qur’anic scholarship with Western education, noting that many institutions in the state effectively integrate both Islamic and Western educational systems.
“Our youth must take advantage of this dual opportunity. Knowledge of the Qur’an nourishes the soul, while Western education develops the mind — together, they pave the way for the future of our state,” Fintiri stated.
The overall winner of the Qur’anic recitation contest, Ahmed Abdulqadir from Yola South, promised to make Adamawa proud as he represents the state at the upcoming national Qur’anic recitation competition in Borno State.
