The Nigerian Army 14 Brigade, Ohafia, has said that its troops, on February 8, 2026, carried out clearance operations along the Umuchima pipeline route leading into a forest in Abia State.

According to the Army, two locally fabricated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) using 5kg gas cylinders, nails, water-gel explosives, two detonators, and electrical cables were discovered.

The development was made known in a press release by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 14 Brigade, Captain Mazinho Attah.

The Army said that the clearance operations were part of intensified efforts to curb what it described as criminal activities of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

It explained that at about 09:00 am on February 8, 2026, troops of the Brigade, while conducting clearance operations along the Umuchima pipeline route leading into the forest, discovered the two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

The Army said that exploitation of the area led to the recovery of four empty cartridge cases and two bags containing nails, noting that troops also successfully cleared a camp belonging to criminal elements.

“The success followed credible intelligence provided by a suspect currently under investigation, who earlier confessed to being a subject expert.

“The Brigade Commander, Brigadier General A.M. Dikko, expressed satisfaction with the professionalism, resilience, and doggedness exhibited by the troops.

“Further exploitation of the Umuchima Forest is ongoing,” the Nigerian Army said.

It added that the general security situation within the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility remained calm but unpredictable, as troops continued to maintain maximum vigilance.
