After receiving an influx of inquiries regarding the condition, she informed her followers: “It seems that many of you experience the same issue, and numerous people are seeking tips on how to manage it. I’ve been dealing with it for about 20 years now, and while it’s not dangerous, it’s called #raynauds disease. When I get too cold, a couple of my fingers become numb, and I lose sensation in them.
“The numbness doesn't last long, but it can be somewhat painful when the blood flow returns. For me, it usually affects just my fingers, so it's relatively mild, although I know it can also impact toes for some individuals.”
The actress, known for her role as Maria Connor on the soap, went on to provide her fellow sufferers with some helpful advice on managing the condition.
She noted: “My tips so far include staying as warm as possible (of course!). Wear gloves when it's chilly outside. Hand warmers are my best friend during winter.
“Consume anything with ginger, as it is beneficial for circulation. Also, keep moving my fingers to encourage blood flow!”
Samia, who emphasized that she is not a medical professional, added: “Even walking down the freezer aisle in a supermarket can trigger my symptoms.”
Actress Michelle Hardwick commented on the post, sharing that she also has the condition.
She wrote: “I first noticed mine when I was 10 while playing netball… Since then, I’ve been diagnosed with Raynaud’s Disease. Thank goodness for hand warmers in that Emmerdale village.”
Samia has been a vital member of the cast since 2000.
She married French professional skater Sylvain Longchambon in 2016 after they were paired on Dancing On Ice in 2013. The couple welcomed a son named Yves in 2015.

Understanding Raynaud's Syndrome
Raynaud’s disease occurs when the small blood vessels in the extremities, such as the hands, feet, fingers, or toes, become overly sensitive to even minor temperature changes, cold conditions, and sometimes emotional stress.
When exposed to cold, the body's normal response is for the blood vessels to constrict.
For individuals with Raynaud’s, this reaction can be significantly more pronounced.
It often leads to noticeable color changes in the affected areas, with the skin turning white, then blue, and finally red as circulation returns.
This phenomenon is referred to as a Raynaud’s attack.
A Raynaud’s attack can be very uncomfortable and occasionally quite painful.
It can also complicate everyday tasks, such as buttoning a jacket or unzipping a purse.
Raynaud’s symptoms typically affect the fingers and toes, but all extremities can be involved, including the hands, feet, ears, nose, lips, tongue, and nipples.
Raynaud’s is a common condition believed to affect up to ten million people in the UK.
Symptoms may include:
- Cold fingers and toes
- Color changes in your skin in response to temperature fluctuations or stress
- Color changes in the affected areas from white to blue, then red
- Numbness, tingling, or pain in the affected areas
- Stinging or throbbing pain when warming up or after relief from stress
