CONOR MCGREGOR seemingly revealed the reason for his UFC return just days before agreeing on an opponent for his cage comeback.

The Irishman, who is currently serving an 18-month for three whereabouts failures, hasn’t set foot inside the octagon since in July 2021.

But his long-awaited return when he claimed he’d accepted an opponent offered to him by the brass.

The 37-year-old wrote on X: “I have been offered an opponent and a date and I accept. Waiting on my contract.”

McGregor’s motivations for returning to the cage have been questioned by many due to his millions of pounds in the bank.

But at this stage of his career, the prospect of earning a few more Bob isn’t what’s luring him back to the cage.

He wrote on X earlier this month: “Don’t do it for the money, do it for the love!”

McGregor’s apparent acceptance of an opponent and a date for his return suggests that his contract impasse with the UFC may soon be overcome.

The Dubliner claimed in January that his current deal with the promotion was “” after they ditched the pay-per-view business with their new multi-billion-pound broadcast deal with Paramount+.

He said during a Roblox stream: “I’m going into negotiations with the Ultimate Fighting Championship in February.

“I’m very interested to go. They’ve actually got a new deal with Paramount, it’s worth $7.7 billion.

“So the company has 4xed its profit.

“And my contract, essentially, is void right now because there’s no more pay-per-view, whereas my contract was based on pay-per-view sales.

“I’m the highest-generating pay-per-view fighter of all time.

“The pay-per-view system is done, I’m due a new contract.

“So, we’re going into negotiations in February, and I’m very interested to see how it goes.”

McGregor, who withdrew from his comeback clash with in June 2024 through injury, will be eligible to fight again on March 20.

His next fight will be his first since he was in 2018.

The Notorious , which was turned in by a jury of his peers at Dublin’s High Court in November 2024.

The Supreme Court rejected the star’s bid for a further appeal last December.
