“Unfortunately, he suffered an ankle fracture in a match against in December 1956.
“Upon returning from injury, he continued to excel for the Clarets and was selected to represent England in Moscow prior to the 1958 World Cup tournament in Sweden.
“McDonald participated in all four England matches during the tournament and was regarded by many as the best goalkeeper.
