Chelsea could face a UEFA investigation if they secure a spot in next season's Champions League.

The Blues will need to demonstrate a clear separation from Strasbourg if both clubs qualify.

The Ligue 1 side’s 4-2 victory over Lyon moved them to within a point of the Champions League places.

However, if Strasbourg secure a place in UEFA’s top competition, sacrifices might need to be made should Chelsea qualify as well.

This is due to increasingly complex regulations surrounding multi-club ownership.

BlueCo, Chelsea’s parent company, completed a takeover of Strasbourg last year.

Both teams will be permitted to compete in the same competition provided they meet a number of conditions set out by UEFA.

UEFA regulations stipulate that no single entity can have “control or influence”; over more than one club participating in one of their club competitions.

It is standard practice for the governing body to launch an investigation into the ownership and off-field structures of both clubs in such cases.
