JONJO SHELVEY is set to trigger a £3million contract extension, according to reports.
The Toon star began the season with a hamstring injury, but has returned to action in recent weeks.
Boss Eddie Howe is a fan of the midfielder, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
According to the Mirror, one more appearance will trigger a one-year extension in the deal – worth £3m.
His next outing will be his 200th for Newcastle, and he outlined his happiness in the North East last summer.
He said: “Youâre always playing for a new contract and Iâm not thick, Iâm not getting younger.
“Iâm 30 years of age and I look about 40! You just want to be part of it.
“The only way for this club is up and a lot of people would want to be in my shoes. The positivity is great around the club.
“Itâs a really good place to be at the minute, the city is buzzing. My missus and kids love it up here.”
If Newcastle were worried about the clause, they could have looked to sell Shelvey last summer.

But Howe is a fan of the midfielder capped six times by England.
The Toon boss said: “Heâs got real qualities that we need.
“Heâs got experience, understands his position and heâs got that range of passing that the team clearly needs.
“Heâs going to have a huge role to play.”
Shelvey’s landmark 200th appearance could come this Sunday, when Newcastle travel to Southampton.
