According to one expert, there are four tell-tale signs that can tell you if it’s time to get re-fitted – and how an ill-fitting could actually cause painful rash.
Professional bra fitter Mari Thomas-Welland took to TikTok where she shared her tips when you’re in the market for a bra.
“There are so many of us out there who may be suspicious of the fact that they’re wearing the wrong bra size – but not 100% sure,” she said in the video .
One of the main “giveaways” your bra doesn’t fit you the way it should, Mari said, is the underband “riding up your back”.
“So you have to reach halfway up your back to be able to undo your bra at the end of the day.”
Additionally, the expert also revealed that having to tighten the shoulder straps all the time is also not a good sign.
“Now, if you’re wearing your right size bra, you shouldn’t have to touch and adjust this part of your bra that often,” she said.
“But the reason you’re having to do this is because you don’t feel like you’re getting enough support here in the front – and therefore, you’re trying to get more life,” Mari explained.
When purchasing your next bra you should also ensure the underwire isn’t digging into your skin.
“The underwire or the outline of your should not be sitting on your breast tissue at all,” she emphasised.
“It should be surrounding it only. So if your cup is digging into your breast tissue, then it’s a sign you’re wearing the wrong size.”
Last but certainly not least – “you get chaffing”, Mari warned.
This skin irritation tends to happen on the bottom part of the breasts or around the breast tissue on the sides closer to your armpits.
According to the expert, “chaffing happens when fabric rubs over and over again on your skin – and this happens when the bra is too big for you”.

One person shared their struggles: “I’m trying to find a new bra and the size I am are all totally different from different shops. The difference is ridiculous.”
“I have all these issues and no matter what I do I still can’t find one that fits, it’s hell,” another chimed in.
“How do you do it? I’m a 38F but I’ve lost a lot of weight and the fullness has disappeared so I don’t know what size to get,” a third was left baffled.
