TWO schoolboys, aged 12 and 16, have been arrested after a stolen car crashed into a taxi.

The collision, in Hartlepool in the early hours of Sunday, saw both children as well as another driver taken to hospital.

The 16-year-old lost consciousness and several teeth during the incident just before 5.25am.

A red Ka, which had been reported stolen overnight, collided with a Vito taxi.

Both cars then struck a pedestrian barrier – with someone said to have run from the Ka before officers arrived at the scene at the junction of Winterbottom Avenue and Warren Road.

The younger child sustained cuts and bruises and both were taken to the University Hospital of North Tees.

They have each been arrested on suspicion of several offences and will be questioned, Cleveland Police said.

The 49-year-old man driving the Mercedes sustained a head injury and he remains in the University Hospital of North Tees receiving treatment.
