Ecclestone served as the CEO of Formula One for over 40 years until 2017, when he stepped down from the group.
He has accumulated significant wealth during his tenure in the sport, with an estimated net worth of around £2.4 billion.
Currently, he resides in a chalet in Gstaad, Switzerland, with his wife Fabiana and son Ace. He disclosed that he has been selling off some substantial assets during an interview with the German outlet Bild .
During the interview, Ecclestone mentioned that he had sold one of his yachts in Croatia.
He stated: “We just sold it.” His wife Fabiana added: “We only used it eight days a year. We don’t need such a large yacht for that.”
The yacht was named ‘Petara,’ inspired by his two daughters, Petra and Tamara, from his second marriage to Slavica Radic.
Ecclestone also revealed that another smaller yacht, currently docked in Ibiza, is also for sale.
The media outlet reported that the motorsport legend was “simplifying his life and wealth.”
He had previously sold his collection of 69 supercars to Red Bull co-owner Mark Mateschitz earlier this year.
The exact sale price was never disclosed, but the impressive collection was believed to be valued at around £500 million.
The fleet included cars driven by Niki Lauda and others, as well as Brabhams raced by notable drivers.
Ecclestone told Reuters in March: “They’ve gone to a good home, which is what I was really concerned about.”
“They’ll be displayed somewhere, in a museum so that people can see them for a change, which has never happened before.”
“I’m very pleased that’s where they’ve ended up. I wouldn’t have sold them to just anyone unless I knew where they were going to be.”
“They’re going to create something akin to a museum, and that’s where they’ll be.”
The interview was published on Ecclestone’s 95th birthday, October 28, and he expressed that he remains as engaged with Formula 1 as ever.
He said: “I still watch every race, including every practice session, and I get up at the appropriate times for the overseas races.”
