The Benue State Government has initiated a strong campaign against unauthorized fees in public schools, implementing a zero-tolerance stance on illegal charges imposed by school officials.
The Executive Secretary of the Benue Education Quality Assurance and Examination Board (BEQAEB), Dr. Terna Francis, issued this alert during a meeting with the principals of public and private schools in Makurdi.
He stated that the government has made the e-Dossier mandatory for all students. This platform is designed to function as an automated performance tracker and a reliable record of student progress from Basic 1 to Basic 9 and from SS 1 to SS 3.
Dr. Terna explained that this system will also enable the board to rank schools based on performance and monitor student transitions.
He disclosed that the Board has completely automated all examination payments, which can now be processed online or through banking channels to reduce corruption and illegal practices within the system.
Dr. Terna emphasized that board staff are no longer allowed to collect payments, issue receipts, or serve as agents for any school or candidate.
He instructed principals and school administrators to direct all complaints and inquiries exclusively through official communication channels.
“The new BEQAEB is not just a superficial change; it represents a complete transformation focused on efficiency, integrity, and accountability,” he stated.
“Our examination system lost its credibility. The former Benue State Examinations Board became known for corruption, inefficiency, and a decline in public confidence.”
“We experienced delays in the release of results, years of unissued certificates, irregularities in exam administration, and a significant loss of public trust.”
“These shortcomings have embarrassed our education system and deprived our students of the dignity of genuine assessment,” he added.
