The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expressed its discontent regarding what it describes as the selective implementation of its agreements with the Federal Government.

This statement was made by the union's President, Professor Christopher Piwuna, following the conclusion of its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at Taraba State University in Jalingo.

While voicing concerns over the government's alleged inconsistent approach to negotiations with union representatives, ASUU firmly cautioned that ongoing indecision on the part of the government could result in “serious consequences for the education sector.”

The union also warned that the Federal Government might encounter another nationwide industrial action if it does not fulfill its commitments.

“We, therefore, hope that our expectations, and indeed the expectations of Nigerians for a swift and comprehensive resolution, are not dashed,” the union stated.

University educators also criticized government officials for allegedly undermining the negotiation process, claiming misrepresentation.

“The partial payment of promotion arrears, which date back to 2017, along with the release of third-party deductions, were characterized as confidence-boosting measures rather than solutions to the fundamental issues,” ASUU remarked.

According to DAILY POST, while some non-monetary aspects of the agreement between the union and the Federal Government have seen advancements, the university educators asserted that salary and working conditions remain unresolved.
