The senator representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, Abdul Ahmed Ningi, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending over two decades of membership in the opposition party.
Ningi disclosed his decision in a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ningi Ward in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The lawmaker said his exit from the party followed extensive consultations with political associates, supporters, and stakeholders, describing it as one of the most difficult decisions of his political career.
Meanwhile, a major political realignment appears to be unfolding in Bauchi State, as the senator is expected to formally declare for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.
DAILY POST learnt that the senator’s defection signals growing momentum for the ADC coalition as political actors across the country begin to explore alternatives ahead of the next election cycle.
Having joined the PDP in 1998, Ningi said the party provided him with the platform to serve the country in various capacities, including two terms in the House of Representatives and two terms in the Senate.
He described the PDP as a once formidable political force in Africa, built on strong democratic ideals, unity, and participatory leadership.
The senator, however, expressed concern over what he described as persistent internal crises, factional struggles, and leadership disagreements, saying the situation had weakened the party’s structure and unity.
“It is now a great concern and worrisome to me that this virile and united platform could be turned into a ramshackle organisation with internal leadership wrangling and factional interests,” he stated in the letter.
Ningi appreciated party leaders and members at various levels for their support throughout his political journey and wished the PDP well in its efforts to rebuild.
