FC BASEL have been forced to order a new kit for Europa League matches after their away and third strips were deemed not to comply with Uefa rules.
The Swiss side are regulars in Europe and typically wear a distinctive blue and red home kit.

This year they have released a striking purple away strip, and a half black, half white third shirt.
Ahead of their European season opener, have confirmed that they will wear a special white alternate jersey for their away games.
have deemed FC Basel’s purple away kit to be “too dark” for use in their competition.
While they claim that the third shirt has “too many black elements”.
The 21-time Swiss champions will debut their alternate kit in tonight’s Europa League clash with SC Freiburg.
FC Basel’s white alternate shirt will be worn with the white shorts and socks from their banned third strip.
Club chiefs are not planning to put the alternate shirt on sale.
They claim this is due to a “very limited number of shirts” being available.
FC Basel's statement in full
FC Basel 1893 will play most of its European away games this season in a special alternative kit. This is due to the very strict UEFA regulations, which do not recognise either the purple away kit or the third kit as acceptable light-coloured away options.
The purple tone of the second jersey was classified as too dark in the UEFA colour palette and therefore does not meet the requirements for a light jersey colour. The third shirt, on the other hand, has too many black elements and is therefore also not approved.
The design of the jerseys is finalised around a year before they go on sale. When planning, the club assumed that the chosen colour would meet the requirements. Following UEFA’s assessment, FCB now feels compelled to switch to a neutral shirt.
The alternate jersey is predominantly white and is complemented by subtle accents in grey and black. It is combined with the shorts and socks from the third jersey.
The shirt will be worn for the first time in the away match against SC Freiburg on Wednesday, 24 September 2025. However, due to the very limited number of shirts available, this special shirt will not go on sale.
FC Basel’s trip to Freiburg will likely be their shortest of the season.
Located in the north of Switzerland, Basel is only a one hour drive from the German city.
Remarkably, the two cities actually share an airport, EuroAirport, despite being in different countries.
More incredibly still, EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg is actually located in France.
