THE TRUE cost of Steven Gerrard’s ill-fated spell in charge of Aston Villa has been revealed.
The Liverpool legend left Glasgow Rangers last November to take charge of the Premier League club.
The 42-year-old former England international had led the Gers to their first Scottish Premiership title in ten years and arrived at Villa Park to much fanfare.
However, that optimism soon disappeared and his tenure lasted less than a year.
Villa sacked Gerrard last month after a defeat at Fulham, which saw his own fans calling for him to be axed, proved to be his final game at the helm.
He had only guided the club to two wins from their opening 12 top-flight games and left with a record of eight wins and eight draws from his 31 matches at the club.
Now the cost of hiring Gerrard has been revealed after Rangers released their annual financial report – which showed an all-time high turnover of £86.8m for the Scottish giants.
But it also showed that Villa paid the Gers £4.25m in compensation for Stevie G for him to replace Dean Smith.
They also had to fork out a further £6.1m for his backroom team to be able to follow him south of the border.
His staff of Gary McAllister, Neil Critchley, Tom Culshaw, Jordan Milsom and Scott Mason also all left Villa after a win rate of just 25.8 per cent.

The Rangers report said: “We also charged £6.1m in non-recurring costs, which includes settlement of litigations and contract termination costs.”
That means that Villa ultimately ended up paying £326,000 per win under Gerrard, who has now been succeeded by Unai Emery.
