MANCHESTER UNITED lost for the first time in nine games in a bruising 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa.
Unai Emery got off to a dream start in his first game in charge as the Villans raced into a 2-0 lead after 11 minutes.
A Leon Bailey strike and a Lucas Digne free-kick gave United an uphill battle, though Jacob Ramsey’s own goal on the stroke of half-time did offer a sliver of hope.
However that quickly evaporated four minutes into the second half when Ramsey produced a fine strike at the right end to restore his side’s two-goal cushion.
The Red Devils’ response was tepid despite a triple change from Ten Hag, with United losing ground in the top-four race as Newcastle won at Southampton.
