The Democracy Watch Initiative, DWI, has urged the leadership of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and other political parties to address internal conflicts through constructive dialogue.

It cautioned that unresolved disputes could adversely affect the electoral process.

The organization made this statement in response to the removal of the ADC leadership from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, portal.

The group indicated that INEC may have shown its dedication to transparency, accountability and the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process by delisting ADC leaders who, according to it, neglected the means of dialogue.

In a statement issued by its Director of Strategic Communication, Tunji Bamidele, DWI emphasized that INEC must ensure that political parties function within the established legal frameworks.

The statement said, “The withdrawal of recognition from the David Mark-led faction represents more than a mere bureaucratic measure; it reaffirms the significance of legitimacy within political parties.

“The ADC, like all political entities, must embody the will of its members and operate in accordance with its constitution.

“Leadership should be attained through democratic processes rather than assumed through dubious methods. This serves as a crucial reminder to all political stakeholders of their duty to uphold democratic principles.

“Democracy flourishes on the foundation of fair play, and any actions that could jeopardize the electoral process must be avoided.

“By cultivating an atmosphere of mutual respect and collaboration, we can ensure that the forthcoming elections are not only fair but also truly representative of the will of the Nigerian populace.

“The well-being of our democracy depends on the capacity of political parties to settle their disagreements without resorting to actions that may jeopardize the electoral process.

“The forthcoming elections represent a crucial juncture in Nigeria’s democratic development, and it is vital that we all contribute to ensuring a transparent and credible electoral process.

“As we approach the 2027 general elections, let us collectively reaffirm our dedication to democratic principles and collaborate to foster an electoral environment that is equitable, transparent, and reflective of the aspirations of the Nigerian populace.

“We must bear in mind that the resilience of our democracy is rooted in our ability to engage in constructive dialogue, uphold the rule of law, and honor the institutions that protect our democratic values.”
