There is one release that has been the talking point for many people for months. It’s one of the most highly anticipated TV shows across all streamers and networks, an adaptation of a book series that has fans excited.

This week also brings some content for families and for children. It’s possibly the perfect time as the world continues to stall in reopening plans and kids start to get fed up with the same things over and over again.

It’s time to break down the top five shows and movies on Netflix to watch this week.

Shows and movies on Netflix: Shadow and Bone

We have to start with the most anticipated release of the year. It’s been a long time coming, and when we finally got that April 23 release date, the cheers could be heard around the world. Yes, it is all about Shadow and Bone.

The fantasy series is based on the books by Leigh Bardugo. The series will amalgamate some of the books, including The Six of Crows, while also correcting some wrongs from the books. One thing Bardugo admits is that her novels were initially written from her experiences of the world and that meant a lack of diversity at first but has grown since. The show changes that considerably.

Shadow and Bone has an outstanding cast and is full of beautiful graphics. It’s time to delve straight into the Grishaverse.

There’s also the Afterparty for those who want a little more from this world when you’ve binge-watched the series.

A movie and a foreign-language series

Things turn dangerous when they find a stowaway on the spacecraft. They’re in space and this stowaway was placed here unconscious. Now all he wants is to get back home, but there isn’t enough fuel to do that.

When catastrophic events happen on the spaceship, everyone has to figure out how to fight for survival. Just how could this all end? Will Stowaway give us peace or will the entire mission be lost?

Shows and movies on Netflix: Life in Color with David Attenborough

It’s time for something for the whole family, and who doesn’t love David Attenborough? Life in Color with David Attenborough is the latest co-production with the BBC in the UK.

For a long time, there have been thoughts that some animals are colorblind or only see the world in black and white. That’s not necessarily the case. Something that this series looks into is just how animals use color to protect themselves and handle the wilderness.

Using innovative technology, the docuseries explores the importance of color for the survival of many creatures. It’s a beautifully-created series, and it’s sure to be a hit with everyone in the house. You can’t beat Attenborough’s soothing voice as he narrates everything.

Check out Life in Color on Thursday, April 22 on Netflix.

Finally, it’s one for just the kids. Sometimes, you want to be able to put something on for them so you can get on with the housework, right? PJ Masks is perfect, and season 3 arrives on Netflix later this week.

The series follows three children who turn into Cat Boy, Owlette, and Gecko. They fight crime in their neighborhood, usually going up against the villains that Luna Girl sends their way—and sometimes fighting against her in the process.

While the series focuses on right and wrong, it’s also one about friendship and trust. The three children have to rely on each other and work as a team to get the jobs done. It’s perfect for younger children to gain inspiration from.
