As the 2026 World Cup qualifying match approaches, Lesotho's captain, Sekhoane Moerane, has cautioned that the Super Eagles of Nigeria should not anticipate any leniency from his team.
Moerane stated that the players from Lesotho will not display any fear against the Super Eagles, as they also strive to keep their slim hopes of qualification alive.
Lesotho currently trails Group C leaders Benin and South Africa by five points, with only two matches remaining in the qualifying series.
Nevertheless, they are still mathematically in the running for a spot in Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
During a press conference prior to the match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Moerane stressed that Lesotho would only extend respect to the Super Eagles.
“As we head into tomorrow’s match, we will not exhibit fear because one thing we must do is respect our opponents without fearing them,” Moerane remarked.
“We will approach the game with great respect but without fear, which simply means we are committed to giving our very best.”
“We are not doing anyone any favors; we are playing for our country and for the Basotho people.”
Moerane played a key role in securing a 1-1 draw against the Super Eagles in Uyo in November 2023.
