Dover District Council (DDC) has launched an after it had removed masses of metal during works to replenish the beach earlier this year.

councillor Chris Vinson said in a post: “Please exercise extreme caution on Walmer beach at the moment!

“The action of the tide has moved the shingle and exposed remnants of the -era structures preserved on Walmer beach in the area south of Granville Road.

“Jagged, rusting metal sections are jutting out of the beach – which can be seen at low tide, but are exposed just below the water when it comes in.

“This is not the first time this has happened, and I’ve had to free one of my nieces when her became caught on metal several years ago.”

He added he had reported the issue to the DDC and asked for it to be “urgently addressed”.

A spokesperson for the local authority said: “We advise people to exercise extreme caution in the area at this time.

“We have taken immediate action to mobilise machinery to get this removed as soon as possible and will be putting up cautionary signage to warn the public.

“We continue to look into this matter and will continue to monitor the area.”

An excavator is due to be on site tomorrow.
