With their side leading 1-0 during the first half courtesy of Isaac Price’s opener, the visiting fans had some fun at Wrexham co-owner Reynolds’ expense.

They chanted towards the Hollywood actor: “Deadpool, give us a wave, Deadpool, Deadpool give us a wave!”

Price went on to score a double as West Brom ended a 15-game winless streak on their league travels in a five-goal thriller at new-boys Wrexham.

The Northern Ireland striker was too much for a porous Red Dragons defence who gave him the freedom of North Wales.

The 21-year-old, who scored the winner against Blackburn last Saturday, opened the scoring when he pounced on a Tom Fellows low cross to rifle low into the far corner from just inside the box.

And he was to pop up again with the clincher in the closing stages when he was again in acres of space to nod a Mikey Johnston floated cross into the net from close range.

It was another cruel lesson for Wrexham that life in the Championship is going to be tough unless they can cut out the defensive frailties.

They remain a threat at the other end, however, and the Phil Parkinson’s side did get back on level terms just before the break.

James McClean had just forced a near post save from Josh Griffiths before the Irish veteran teed-up Lewis O’Brien who stabbed  his effort into the ground and bounced into the roof of the net.

Wrexham looked the likelier to get their noses after the restart with record-signing Nathan Broadhead spurning a golden chance coming off the bench on his debut then Conor Coady headed wide from a Matty James cross.

But the game turned on a double substitution by the Baggies with Jed Wallace and Mikey Johnston combining just seconds after coming on with Wallace powering an angled drive through Ward’s legs at his near post.

With Wrexham chasing the game they were cut open again with Johnston again the provider for Price to make it six points out of six for the visitors so far this campaign.

There was still time for Wrexham to score a consolation deep in stoppage time with sub Sam Smith heading home from a Ryan Longman cross.
