The rhythm dance section of the took place and saw Candian duo Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier take to the ice.
They put up an impressive score of 86.18 and find themselves in a podium spot ahead of the free dance section.
But it was a genius call from Gilles which has in the bronze medal position after a piece of clothing came loose during their performance.
During a flurry of incredible lifts and spin maneuvers, a cuff from his outfit got caught in Giles’ tights right at the climax of their dance.
According to Olympic rules, if part of the outfit touched the ice then it would have been an instant one point deduction for the duo.
The fabric flapped about on Gilles’ leg but somehow the 34-year-old was able to catch it.
She finished with an improvised final pose that saw her place the material behind her back.
The competition is so tight that had she not made that on-the-fly decision, the pair would currently be sitting out of the medals in fourth spot.
Currently, ‘s Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron are on course for gold while America’s Madison Chock and Evan Bates are sitting in second.
Poirier told CBC that their razor sharp focus is what got the job done.
“We were really in the zone, feeling motivated and hungry and ready to immerse ourselves in the program. We had our blinders on, which allowed us to skate [in the] present.
“We came into this event unsatisfied with our performance a few days ago, and that allowed us to sharpen our focus. It was such a joy to perform today.”
