A Professor of Strategic Management and Human Capital Development, Okey Ikechukwu, asserts that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, does not own Rivers State politics and should refrain from warning others to avoid it.

Ikechukwu made these remarks on Tuesday during an interview on ‘Prime Time’, a program on Arise Television that was monitored by DAILY POST.

He was responding to the recent tension between Wike and the National Secretary of the APC, Ajibola Basiru.

DAILY POST recalls that Wike had urged others to refrain from interfering in Rivers State politics following his public endorsement of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

In his response, Ikechukwu stated, “Wike is not a member of the APC, thus he cannot voice opinions regarding the APC.”

“Let’s clarify the facts. The head of the party in a state like Rivers is the party chairman while Fubara was part of the PDP.”

“However, now that Fubara is a member of the APC, he becomes the leader of the party in the state.
“Between the leader and the chairman, I am unaware of any other locus of authority within the party. For someone who is not a card-carrying member of the party to assume a position and caution others to stay out of Rivers politics, rather than PDP politics in Rivers, is that his private property? These are the issues at hand.”

“If I were in the position of the National Secretary of the APC, I would be shocked to remain silent and allow this to occur. Therefore, I believe the man has acted appropriately.”

“Wike must understand the distinction between merely supporting the president and being a member of the APC. The shortcomings of the PDP have allowed Wike to continue this for far too long.”
